Standardizing the Breed:
The first organized process of unifying the Rat Terrier strain took place on January 1, 1999, when United Kennel Club accepted the Rat Terrier into its registry. The Rat Terrier was one of the most diversified breeds in history. Today, there still remains a great deal of physical variation. Coat color is the trait with the most variation as it comes in 18 different acceptable colors by AKC Foundation Stock Registry.
